Unfortunately, we live in a world where horrific things happen on a regular basis. You can’t really escape it and that is such a sad reality of life. But luckily in the midst of all the evil in this world, good can still overcome. In the case of one puppy, a little bit of love went a long way!

But luckily in the midst of all the evil in this world, good can still overcome. In the case of this one puppy, a little bit of love went a long way!

Two women in Lebanon were just having a normal day. They were on their way to Beirut when they noticed something odd. There was a slow moving puppy on the side of the road. When they decided to take a closer look it was obvious that there was something horrifically wrong!

There was a slow moving puppy on the side of the road. When they decided to take a closer look it was obvious that there was something horrifically wrong!

This dog was all around battered, but worst of all, it had a visible hole in its head the size of a golf ball!

The two women were shocked and decided they needed to do something. This puppy did not look like it should be alive and without help, it soon wouldn’t be.

One of the women named Amal Andari is a volunteer at the shelter called Animals Lebanon.

When she first saw the dog she just thought it was skinny and dehydrated and she couldn’t bear to leave without giving this sad critter some water. That was when she got close enough to see the extent of the injuries.

Andari explained, “We saw a hole in her head. We stopped and walked down to her. She was a little bit fearful, but we called her, and she came, and she was wagging her tail. She approached us, but slowly, and we gave her some water.”

They were uncertain what had happened to this little blonde pup. She only looked to be around two months old. They decided to ask around to see if any locals knew anything about the dog. No one seemed to know anything. They all just seemed to shrug it off and point out that it could have been an attack by another animal.

Andari and her friend knew that no other animal had inflicted these wounds. There were no bite marks or any other visible signs that an animal had been the cause. This incredible display of abuse had to have been forced upon her at the hand of a human being.

Understanding that there was no hope for this dog unless they stepped in, Andari knew it was time to go to the vet.

What they found then left them speechless.

The X-rays revealed that this poor, innocent puppy had been shot dozens of times with pellets from a shotgun. Seeing this X-ray and understanding the severity of these wounds, the vet gave her a 25% shot at survival. She was also half blinded from getting hit in the eye by a pellet. The odds for her did not look promising.

“There were so many pellets,” Andari told The Dodo. “We think that a bunch of teenagers had ‘fun’ shooting her.”

Andari decided that if this puppy had lasted this long she wanted to do everything in her power to give this little trooper the best possible shot at survival! So she gave her the name Bondok and they made their move.

“She has an appetite for life,” Andari said. “She wanted to live — I believe that.”

They decided it was too risky to try to remove the pellets from inside of her because it may cause more harm than good. Instead, the wounds were cleaned and she was given antibiotics. She also needed to be treated for a parvovirus which could be life-threatening if left untreated.

Since then, Bondok is still doing really well! But it will still be a waiting game to see if the pellet causes any internal harm in the future.

The vets seemed to think that this would be unlikely and since she made it through the first four days when she was in critical condition, she should now be in the clear!

Now she has more energy than ever and she is taking full advantage of this second chance at life!
